International Leather Centre gets go-ahead

Planning permission has been granted for a new teaching and research building at the University of Northampton’s new Waterside Campus, the International Leather Centre. The site is located just outside of Northampton Town Centre; a town renowned for it’s leather manufacturing making the new Waterside Campus an apt location.

The scheme is designed by Associated Architects on behalf of Stoford Developments Ltd. It seeks to create an International Leather Centre, delivering technical expertise in education, training and research. In addition, it will seek to be a hub for consultancy to support the global leather industry.

A Bold Vision for Leather Industry

The University of Northampton has taken the decision to move to the Waterside campus to:

  • Secure the future of the University as a leading higher education institution
  • Locate centrally with easy access to town centre amenities
  • Create a landmark development with significant regenerative impact
  • Sustain better maintenance and investment costs

As a result, the new building will consider the University’s wider vision for the Waterside Campus.

Internal accommodation will include:

  • Offices
  • Classrooms
  • Teaching Laboratories
  • Partner rooms
