Student Design Competition

Associated Architects were excited to be asked by Birmingham City University to act as judges for their BA (Hons) Interior Design course competition. The brief was to design a seating and exhibition area for the atrium in the new “Phase 2 building”:http://www.www.associated-architects.co.uk/projects/education/universities/the-curzon-building/, due to be completed in 2015. After a site visit the student groups were asked to submit a rendered final proposal, a sketch book detailing their experience during the project, a 1:20 model and presentation boards. The students were also required to complete a five minute presentation, detailing the research and development of their response.

James Hall, Director for Associated Architects said, _‘We maintain a strong relationship with Birmingham City University and are always excited to see what their design students are able to achieve. The ideas submitted in this competition have been very strong, with some interesting approaches to how to utilise the space. After some tough deliberation we settled on the collaborative effort of Adriana Graur, Nina Roberts, Shaghayegh Ahmadzadeh and Kenika Hendrickson. Their design was eye catching and explores interesting interplay between light and shape in a creative and playful way.’_
