Associated Architects is pleased to announce that Phase 1 of the refurbishment of the Grade II listed, modernist Edward Boyle Library at the University of Leeds has opened. The first phase of the building was opened on the 28th September with large numbers of students enjoying the new facilities.
Associated Architects have been praised by conservation experts for its deep understanding of the building’s special character, attention to detail and appreciation of the original 1975 design concepts throughout the library’s £17 million refurbishment process.
Jane Saunders, Head of Collections Services for the Library said, “The EBL is being restored to its former glory, with the atrium opened up and the original colours to each floor reinstated.
“The building is much lighter. We have new glazing to red route, the study desks now face the natural light and there are new roof lights on level 13. We’re very proud of this refurbishment so far and look forward to being fully open in 2017.”
